The Courage to Begin
Hello, beautiful humans.
I recorded this month’s Lumina Letter so if you prefer, you can hear it in my voice — perfect for a walk, your morning coffee, or a quiet moment to yourself. Listen below xo
Welcome back to the Lumina Letter! This is our Aries seasonal update. As we move into Aries energy, it’s also a really good moment to pause and welcome in a whole new cycle. You might have heard me say this before: January may be the top of the calendar year, but it is not the energetic seasonal awakening. That moment arrives now.
Aries Season (March 20 – April 19)
Aries is the first sign of the zodiac. Before this moment, January, February, and March were slowly closing out a cycle. Now we are entering a new energetic year, a new vibration, and the zodiac starts over.
After the reflective, emotional waters of Pisces season, Aries arrives like a spark — asking us to take everything we’ve learned and begin again.
And with that, Aries is all about beginning.
Collective Energy
Before we get really deep into the archetype of Aries, let’s start with the element: fire. It’s so interesting that the zodiac begins with a fire sign, because fire carries action and presence. Fire says: “Here I am."
It is hot. It is loud. It is spicy. It’s meant to be paid attention to. Think about a fire — you don’t just leave it by itself. You tend to it. You make sure it stays contained, because the moment your eyes go away from it, it can run free and wild. Fire craves attention.
Aries is also a cardinal sign, meaning it is action-oriented. It is initiator energy. Aries says: "I am the pioneer. I am the one who creates the path forward so the rest of the zodiac can follow." It’s leader energy. Eldest child energy. The one who begins. And because of that, Aries always brings us back to the self.
The ruling planet of Aries is Mars. Mars is about our passions, our drive, our motivation — our yes factor. It’s often described as masculine energy, but not in the traditional sense. It’s masculine in the action-oriented sense.
Mars represents how we move through the world, what motivates us, what drives us, and the discipline behind that. It can also show up as competitiveness. Aries sometimes needs the reminder that the only competition that truly matters is the one within yourself. You are not competing with anyone else…
You will never be them because you are not them.
They will never be you because they are not you.
So the real question becomes: How can I become more aligned with the person I was yesterday?
There is no Aries story without the “I.” Aries energy is very much about my story, my thoughts, my direction, my capabilities, my purpose. If you know an Aries in your life, you might recognize that conviction. They can be pretty hell-bent on what feels true for them. But if we step back from the personal archetype and instead look at the energy Aries brings, it’s asking something deeper:
Where do you want to go in this life?
What is your path?
What is your purpose?
Can you find conviction in that?
Because if we don’t have conviction in ourselves, the rest of the zodiac cycle can feel incredibly confusing.
Recently I found myself in a conversation with someone I love dearly, and the word conviction came up. I hadn’t used that word in years, but now I can’t stop saying it.
Conviction.
And when I sit with the energy of Aries season, it makes perfect sense. It feels like Aries is saying: "You need conviction in your path." Self-doubt and endless questioning won’t get you anywhere.
Aries energy is the warrior archetype of the zodiac. Not a warrior of aggression, but a warrior of courage — the courage to take the first step even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed. The beginning isn’t meant to be perfect. It’s meant to be brave.
There is also a physical shift happening right now.
It’s spring. The sun is on our faces a little longer. Our bodies want to move again. It feels like we’re crawling out of hibernation. Aries energy lives strongly in the body. Sometimes the body knows it’s time to move before the mind fully catches up.
That’s Aries saying: "Wake up." At its core, Aries asks something powerful:
Can you lead your own life?
Can you stop waiting for someone else to give you approval to move forward? Aries energy says you need to become your own warrior. But like all fire, Aries also needs balance. When fire is balanced, it warms and energizes. When it’s unbalanced, it becomes impulsive, reactive, or explosive. Aries moves quickly, and if our foundation isn’t rooted in our values, we can end up chasing adrenaline instead of alignment.
So the real invitation here is: Do I know myself well enough to move forward with intention?Living in the Energy
As I shared, the word conviction has been echoing loudly for me lately. Its felt like a song you just can’t get out of your head just playing on repeat. I’ve found myself sitting between two paths & trying to do both at once instead of really committing to the one that keeps calling me forward.
Aries energy doesn’t love hesitation. It says: "Okay, cut the shit." If you want something, put action behind it.
Create structure.
Make the plan.
Put energy into the direction you keep saying you want.
So this week has been tiring, and I imagine there will be more weeks like that. But something inside me feels different.. feels exciting. There’s this small inner confidence beginning to glow — like a little flame getting brighter.
Last weekend I was with some yoga teachers I teach with, and we had a little gathering where we made sun catchers. There were beads everywhere — so many beautiful colors all mixed together. I had never done this before.
I didn’t have a plan. I didn’t have an outcome. I just started pulling beads that felt right and trusting the process as I went. Halfway through I realized I had somehow started creating an elemental sun catcher.
There was air.
There was water.
There was earth.
And right in the middle I placed the longest strand — fire.
Which is funny, because I hadn’t strategically planned that out - I don’t think of myself with a strong fire presence and I actually have very little fire in my birth chart. But sitting there looking at it afterward, something clicked.
The beginning didn’t need to be perfect. I didn’t need to know exactly what I was creating.
I just started. And somewhere along the way, the message arrived. Maybe this year or this season of life is about fire for me.
Finding the flame.
Staying with the flame.
And not letting it burn out.
And honestly, that feels pretty beautiful.
Practical Application
Aries energy wants movement. This is not a season for stagnation. Fire that sits still becomes too hot — it needs somewhere to go. So one of the simplest ways to work with this energy right now is to move your body.
Go for a walk.
Jump around your living room.
Put on a song and dance with your eyes closed.
Let your body release some of that fire.
This is also a powerful time to think about goals and manifestation. Aries is the beginning of the zodiac cycle, which means we are planting seeds for the months ahead.
Sit with the vision:
Where am I going?
What am I building?
What am I ready to begin?
This energy is also asking you to step slightly outside of your comfort zone. Try something new. Take a step forward before you have the entire roadmap figured out. Because Aries reminds us that sometimes clarity arrives after we begin.
A Closing Invitation
Aries season asks us something simple but powerful: Do you believe in yourself enough to begin?
The path rarely appears fully formed in front of us. More often, it reveals itself as we start walking. So if something inside you feels ready to move — ready to grow, ready to ignite — trust that spark.
Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is simply say: "I’m ready."
Until next time, may you move with grace, breathe with intention, and walk in balance.
Let the soul be in harmony with the truth.
