Let the Heart Lead

Hello beautiful humans!

Welcome to Leo Season (July 22 – August 22)

There’s a feeling in the air. A little more heat. A little more play. A little more look at me, I’m here… It’s LEO Season.

Before we make Leo all about confidence, attention, big personalities, or being the loudest person in the room, let’s come back to the foundation: fire.

Fire says pay attention.
Fire says let’s play.
Fire says let’s do.
Fire says explore.
Fire says I feel.
Fire says I express.
Fire says make room for me.

Give fire more oxygen, more space, and it expands. And Leo? Leo is fixed fire. There is a steadiness here. A knowingness. A sense of I am who I am. I know what I love. I know what lights me up. This season is asking us to trust that knowing a little more.

I’ve been thinking a lot about what it actually means to take center stage in your own life. Not center stage in the performative way. Not needing everyone to look at you, praise you, choose you, or tell you that what you’re doing is good enough. But the quieter version. The one where you choose you. Where you stop waiting for someone else to give you permission to wear the thing, make the thing, say the thing, start the business, change your mind, take the leap, or become a little more of who you already know yourself to be. There is something deeply Leo about that. Underneath all of Leo’s warmth, playfulness, creativity, passion, and expression is the heart. And the heart doesn’t always make the most logical choice. Sometimes it just knows.

Collective Energy

Leo is ruled by the Sun, and I always think there’s something so beautifully simple about that. The Sun doesn’t ask permission to shine. It doesn’t wonder whether it’s taking up too much space. It shines because that is what it does. At its highest expression, Leo reminds us of that same innate light within ourselves: creativity, warmth, loyalty, courage, playfulness, generosity, passion, and the willingness to be fully expressed. There is a childlike quality to Leo energy, too. Not childish—but that part of us that remembers what it was like to create because creating felt good. To wear something because we loved it. To dance because a song came on. To laugh loudly. To get excited. To be proud of something we made. Before we learned to look around and ask whether anyone else approved.

And then there is courage—something I don’t think we can talk about Leo without naming. Courage doesn’t necessarily mean being fearless. The word itself traces back to the Latin cor, meaning heart. And maybe that is the kind of courage Leo asks of us: not the absence of fear, but the willingness to let the heart have a voice anyway.

To risk being seen.
To create before we know how it will be received.
To choose what feels true even when another path might feel safer.

And because Leo is fixed fire, there is staying power behind all of that expression.

Fixed energy says, I know.

I know who I am.
I know what I love.
I know how I want to do this.

That knowing can be incredibly powerful. It gives Leo its loyalty, conviction, devotion, and ability to keep its fire burning.

But every strength has a shadow.. I know can become I already know. Conviction can become stubbornness. Confidence can become defensiveness. And sometimes another perspective can quietly hit something underneath: Wait… was my way not good enough?

This is where Leo’s relationship with validation becomes interesting. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be seen. We all want to be witnessed. We all want the people we love to clap for us sometimes. But there is a difference between enjoying the applause and needing the applause to know that you are worthy of the stage.

And this Leo season has the volume turned up. Jupiter entered Leo at the end of June and will move through this sign for the next year. Jupiter expands whatever it touches. It says more. More possibility. More growth. More faith. More exploration. Moving through Leo, it can amplify the heart.

More creativity.
More expression.
More courage.
More play.
More visibility.
More willingness to say yes.

But expansion works in every direction. The shadow can get bigger, too. More ego. More comparison. More stubbornness. More reactivity. More looking outside of ourselves and asking, Do you see me yet? Do you approve? Am I enough now? Because when fire is tended, it warms. It illuminates. It gathers people around it. When it isn't, it can burn. So maybe the invitation isn't simply to become more. Maybe it’s to become more intentional about what we’re giving oxygen to—because, as I often say, don’t breathe air into what you don’t want to live.

Living in the Energy

This one feels personal for me.. As I stepped into this Leo season, I also stepped into a chapter I have imagined for years.

I left a position that was safe. Secure. Predictable. A place where I had been validated, where I knew I was doing good work and making impact. There was growth there, a clear path forward, and in many ways I already knew I was shining in other people's eyes. For years, I had been quietly building the things that felt the most me on the back burner—dreaming, creating, learning, offering, working tirelessly while still giving so much of my energy somewhere else. And finally, on the cusp of this season, I chose to put that chapter down.

I made the big, scary leap.

And now, for the first time, I am in the full offering of me—my work, my gifts, my creativity, my services, the things I have spent years imagining and slowly building.

And damn, it feels good.

What has surprised me most isn't even the excitement… It's the ease.

There has been this feeling of coming home that I expected intellectually but didn't fully understand until I felt it in my body. A liberation in having the space to create, explore, and ask myself what I actually want my life and my work to look like. And when I really sit with what I am most proud of, it comes down to something incredibly simple: I chose myself rather than waiting to be chosen.

I applauded myself. I validated myself. I said, I'm going to do the damn thing.

And there is something about moving toward what feels alive that creates more life.

Since making that choice, I have felt expansion—in my ideas, my opportunities, my creativity, my trust in myself. Not because choosing yourself means the universe suddenly hands you everything you've ever wanted. But because when you're no longer using so much energy trying to convince yourself to stay somewhere you've already outgrown, that energy gets to go somewhere else. It gets to create. It gets to play. It gets to imagine. It gets to expand.

And maybe that is what Jupiter moving through Leo can remind us of this year: What happens when the heart gets to be part of the decision?

Practical Application

I want to do something a little different with this season. Grab your journal, your Notes app, a random piece of paper—whatever feels good.

Write a letter. But not a letter to your future self. Write a letter from them. Imagine it is August 2027. A year has passed. You are sitting somewhere in your life, looking back at the version of you who is reading this right now.

Who have you become? What did you finally give yourself permission to do? What do you no longer ask permission for? What feels normal now that once felt terrifying? What are you proud of yourself for choosing? Where did you take up more space? What happened when you stopped waiting to be chosen?

And instead of writing: I hope… I wish… Maybe someday…

Try: I am. I am living… I am creating… I trust… I choose… I allow… I know…

Let yourself write from the version of you who already knows. Don't worry about whether it sounds realistic. Don't worry about figuring out exactly how you get there. For a few minutes, just play. That is Leo, too.

A Closing Thought:

Maybe taking center stage doesn't mean everyone has to be watching. Maybe being seen doesn't always require an audience. Maybe confidence isn't walking into every room believing you're the most important person there. Maybe it's walking into your own life and deciding that you aren't going to abandon yourself anymore.

Wear the thing. Make the thing. Say the thing. Celebrate yourself. Follow what feels alive. Let it be fun sometimes. Let yourself be proud. Let yourself take up a little more space. And when you catch yourself looking around the room, waiting to see if everyone else is clapping - come back to your own hands. You are allowed to applaud yourself first.

Until next time, may you move with grace, breathe with intention, and walk in balance.

Let the soul be in harmony with the truth.

With love,

Shauna
