Less Walls, More Me

I recorded this month’s Lumina Letter, so if you prefer, you can hear it in my voice — perfect for a walk, your morning coffee, or a quiet moment to yourself. Listen below, xo.

Hello Beautiful Humans,

Welcome back to the Lumina Letter! Truly one of my favorite times of the year… Aquarius Season.

Not just because I’m an Aquarius Sun and Moon and I have five planets in the 11th house; the house of Aquarius, which governs ideologies, values, friendship, community, social connection, and humanitarian spaces.. okay maybe a little bit..

There is something incredibly special about this energy — and also something deeply confusing. Aquarius season invites us into a frequency that doesn’t want to be explained neatly. It doesn’t want to be defined or pinned down. And honestly? That’s the point.

Aquarius is a walking contradiction and naturally, I love her. The embodiment of this archetype is essentially saying: please don’t put me in a box. Don’t label me. Don’t act like you have me figured out. The moment you think you understand Aquarius is usually the moment it’s already evolved.

At its core, Aquarius energy is about individual sovereignty. It’s about noticing where we may be operating within someone else’s construct — energetically, socially, culturally, or internally — and gently, sometimes disruptively, choosing ourselves anyway. This energy reminds us that identity is not something we inherit; it’s something we continuously discover.

Aquarius Season (Jan 20th-Feb 18th)

Aquarius is an air sign — fixed air, which matters significantly.

Air lives in the mind — in thought, perception, ideas, innovation, and vision. Aquarius energy is highly cerebral, future-oriented, and imaginative. It thinks in patterns, systems, and possibilities that haven’t fully arrived yet. There’s often a feeling that this energy comes from the future, carrying information meant to help us evolve beyond what currently exists.
Cue Google saying Aquarian energy = alien. *rolls eyes*

Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, the planet that appeared suddenly and changed our understanding of the solar system. That same energy lives here — excitement, disruption, awakening, and the questioning of foundations. Aquarius doesn’t reject structure outright; it simply asks whether the structure is still alive, still relevant, still serving growth.

Because air lives in the mind, Aquarius can feel detached — but this detachment isn’t coldness, it’s protection. Aquarius holds a deep empathy for humanity, and if it were to take on the emotional weight of everything it sees and feels, it would be overwhelmed. So there is a hovering quality — a floating above — that allows perspective, innovation, and optimism to exist without collapse.

Fixed air adds a unique layer to this. There is strong conviction of thought here, and at times a stubbornness rooted in the desire to keep values aligned. When engaging with fixed air, the invitation is dialogue — not argument. Aquarius wants to exchange ideas passionately, to be heard, and to explore perspectives, though it can sometimes believe it knows best. It welcomes challenge, but it asks that we all come grounded in our values.

The work of air signs is always embodiment. The reminder is to come back into the body, to feel what has been understood, and to let emotion inform wisdom rather than bypass it.

Collective Energy

Collectively, Aquarius season brings a strong desire for freedom — freedom of thought, expression, and being. There can be an urge to break chains, disrupt patterns, and move away from anything that feels restrictive or inauthentic right now. If you’ve been operating inside a structure that no longer fits, this season can feel uncomfortable — even agitating — until truth is acknowledged. You know I always love to mention truth.

There is also a strong collective focus on innovation and impact.

Aquarius energy cares deeply about humanity — not in a sentimental way, but in a visionary one. It sees what could be better. It challenges the current not because it wants to argue, but because it knows improvement is possible. Culturally, there is a lot of change and innovation happening around us — some of which is embraced by some and resisted by others. This reflects the broader Aquarian era we are moving into, and with the Sun now activating this energy, it can feel less abstract and more personal — like an invitation rather than a concept.

At a lower vibration, this energy can come off as argumentative, detached, or rebellious for the sake of rebellion. At its highest expression, Aquarius brings difference as a gift. It disrupts the status quo because it genuinely wants to help. It wants better systems, better relationships, better ways of being human together.

This season carries a lightness to it. I see it as a brightness — the color yellow comes to mind — an electric quality. There’s no malice here. No ego-driven proving. The motivation is rooted in universal love and a belief that humanity can evolve.

Living in the Energy

I started laughing when I got to this section. This one feels more personal — and of course it does. I truly hope it does for you too. The question of have I truly been living, thinking, breathing, exploring, doing for me? That is one of the most personal inquiries out there.

Living in Aquarius energy means allowing yourself to be different without needing to justify it. It means trusting that your unique way of thinking, perceiving, and moving through the world has value — even if it doesn’t make sense to everyone else.

For me, as someone with strong Aquarian placements, this season always feels like a mirror. It’s true — I carry the shadows of Aquarius. I’ve often felt like I don’t belong, while simultaneously being told that I help others feel deeply seen. I don’t feel like an alien — but I do know that I think differently. If everyone says yes, I feel an urge to want to say no. I’ve chosen paths that haven’t always made sense to people in my life. I can default to analysis. I can live in my head. And it is my constant work to remember that understanding an emotion is not the same as feeling it.

Thank you to the Universe… I have once again been humbled. Situations have brought my shadow sides of Aquarius into the light. Backstory: anytime in my life I’ve made an authentic decision, it was quick — some might say impulsive. I would say it was a knowing I couldn’t silence. A deeply embodied truth of I don’t know the full picture of why I’m doing this, but everything in my body says it’s true for me. I know it was aligned because my thoughts and decisions were not based on anyone but myself.

Recently, I haven’t been doing that. Remember — detachment is a safety mechanism, and it’s easily accessible. The hard truth coming into the light is that I ignored those body signals. I ignored myself, honestly. The shadow of thinking I was adding value while being controversial — needing to say something just to offer a different perspective — without being rooted in presence. It’s felt heavy, and my air has felt overwhelming.

This season has asked me to sit with myself, to notice where I may be attached to narratives that aren’t truly mine, and to listen to what my body has been trying to say beneath the thinking. Aquarius energy can be impulsive — there’s often an urge to break free quickly — but the wisdom here is discernment. Acting from alignment rather than reaction. Moving forward with awareness of impact, not fear.

Happy to report that not being impulsive for the sake of it has supported me here. I found that inner feeling and connection again. I see the stories I was walling up behind — and I’ll be real… it’s scary to confront that.

Aquarius reminds us that we don’t need to be understood to be valid. We don’t need permission to be ourselves. And we don’t need to perform our difference loudly for it to matter. Sometimes the most profound influence comes simply from being who we are — quietly, steadily, authentically.

Practical Application

Over the next few weeks, I invite you to notice where you’re explaining yourself out of habit rather than alignment. Practice pausing before responding — not to withdraw, but to check whether your words are rooted in truth or reflex. Allow yourself to choose differently in small, quiet ways that don’t require an announcement or justification. Let integrity, not urgency, guide your actions.

If it feels supportive, you’re invited to pause here and sit with this energy. To invite in the idea to let ourselves evolve without apology.

A Closing Invitation

Be gentle with the Aquarians in your life. Let them be who they are.

And ask yourself: How much permission am I giving myself to be me?

Until next time, may you move with grace, breathe with intention, and walk in balance.

Let the soul be in harmony with the truth.

With love,

Shauna
